Sponsored Walk

On 2nd August 10.30am at Rouken Glen Park we held our first Sponsored Fun Walk. About 150 people turned up to take part in the walk and raise money for our augmented services such as our art and music groups, respite breaks and play schemes. The sun shone, the park was busy, and many walkers were in fancy dress much to the amusement of onlookers. Staff, service users, Board members and families all turned out in force to raise money and join in the fun. Water was donated by Highland Spring and free picnic bags were provided for walkers.

Since this was our first Sponsored Fun Walk we had set ourselves a moderate target to raise of £5,000 and early indications are very reassuring. The prize for the best fundraising team went to The Cosgrove Crusaders - an Adult Services team - who alone raised over £600. Best team name went to the Shop team - Pat Tester and The Recylclables and the Chief Executive prize went to Paul Darroch who was present to make a short film about the event. Prizes were donated by The GFT, Blair Drummond Safari Park, Rangers and St Mirren's Football Clubs, and Paradise Island Mini-Golf.

Cosgrove Chief Executive, Walter Hecht, said:

"We've now shown that staff, and more importantly families, are willing to get involved in fundraising events like this and that their involvement does makes a real impact. The day was a real win/win situation for those who were there; it was fun to be involved; we proved we could raise vital funds and the profile of Cosgrove received a real boost. These are difficult financial times in the charitable sector and we have to explore any and every opportunity to bring in new funding to ensure the survival and quality of our outreach services."
