Supported Living Services » McKay Court

Description of Service:

This service provides 24hour support to men with learning disabilities to live a normal life in their own homes.  Our support workers work alongside the men helping them with tasks and activities in their daily life.  These tasks vary according to the needs of the person but can include support with tasks at home, with going out, with decision making, with personal care and providing back up in crisis or emergency.  As an organisation we are responsible for the co-ordination of each man’s support and for maintaining standards of support.

Services/Activities provided by the service:

We work with the men, their families and communities and the agencies and services who work with them, to build a fuller and more satisfied life for them.
In order to be fully active citizens in the community, we not only support the men to the services and activities that our organisation provides, but also to use the same ordinary services as everyone else.  These include our Music Group, Art Group, Numeracy Group and voluntary work at one of our charity shops.  These are all support based within our organisation which means the men can take part at whatever level they are able to.  They are also supported to access everyday activities in the local community.  Some of their favourites are the cinema, Ten-Pin bowling, swimming and they enjoy visiting the local cafés, shops, parks and pubs.  An important part of the support we provide is to offer as much contact with their families and friends as possible.

How to access the Service:

Our service is accessed directly through referral from the local authority to our organisation.  Both parties assess the needs of the person and then agree and draw up the support that is to be provided to them.
